The days before “The Arrival” paced by slowly—the sky remained silent. The tension for many people was almost too much to bear. Then on Friday at 5:48 p.m. in Washington, DC, the silence was broken. The screens tuned to the Visitors’ frequencies came to life with another scrolling text message and this time accompanied by the gentle voice.

“Hello good people of Earth. We are now drawing close and have reduced our speed. We are still on schedule to arrive at our assigned orbital position on 15 April. Soon you will be able to see us. At the end of this message, we will attach specific coordinates for your Southern Celestial Hemisphere map so you will know where to aim your instruments to find us. When we are closer, feel free to reach out with your radar facilities so you can track us more precisely and feel reassured that we are approaching safely. We look forward to our arrival and to conversing with you much more. We will sign off for now and will give you precise details of our approach during its final hours.”
